My Orthodontist Is Seeing Patients Again; Is It Safe to Go?

A medical professional man wearing personal protective equipment

Following the Phase 2 directives for COVID-19 from the British Columbia provincial government, our offices are now open again.

Some of our patients may be wondering the following:

Now that my orthodontist is open, is it safe to go?

From treatment and waiting room disinfection to the strict use of personal protective equipment (PPE), the safety of patients and staff members continues to be of utmost importance.

Your check-in may involve a few extra steps that will help ensure the safety of patients and staff.

For instance, the process will include screening and triage questions, waiting in your vehicle versus the waiting room, checking your temperature and asking that you follow social distancing and infection control etiquette.

Your orthodontist will recommend against bringing companions to appointments, unless necessary.

During your appointment, you may be asked to use a hydrogen peroxide rinse, which just helps bring down the amount of germs and viruses in the mouth to a lower level. There will be fewer patients in the office at one time to promote social distancing.

If you have any questions or concerns, your orthodontic team is available to provide answers. Rest assured your AAO orthodontist will be following any recommended precautions to treat all orthodontic patients safely.

The above note is an excerpt from our recent newsletter. We don’t want any of our patients to worry. We practice safe orthodontics, and we will be really happy to see you in the office again.
