The Fixin’s For Fresh Breath

It is not enough just to cover up bad breath. At some point the mask of gum and mouthwash will wear off, and the smell will return.

So why not fix the problem at it’s root?

Here are some ways in which your inner physical health, and the food you consume, can assist you in better oral health, and have you (and those around you) breathing a breath of fresh air!

Yogurt …it does a body good
Did you know that yogurt reduces plaque, gingivitis and smelly breath (often) caused by hydrogen sulphide? Where milk does a body good, yogurt does your breath good, and can actually alter the bacteria on your mouth – creating a pleasant palate for all.

Pineapple …a burst of tropics in your mouth
Who doesn’t like the site or smell of anything “tropical”? Pineapple is a fruit that contain bromelain, which is a digestive enzyme that acts as a natural cleanser. It’s a fun and deliciously fruity way to freshen your breath!

Cranberries …the natural plaque preventer
Have you ever taken a sip of cranberry juice and felt a bit of a chalky feel on your teeth? This is a good thing. Cranberries prevent plaque and bacteria from sticking to the surface of teeth, by creating a natural barrier. Not only a great antioxidant for the body, cranberries will also aid in your oral health.

Veggies …the snack of choice
We understand that veggies are not often the go-to snack food for most, but by munching on raw vegetables, you can increases saliva production, which helps wash food particles and acid from teeth. They are a natural way in which to “brush” your teeth, without any bristles being involved. Good for your body and your teeth.

As your Surrey Orthodontics Specialist, we suggest that the next time you want to pop a mint to deflect from the decaying scent in your mouth, perhaps consider this more permanent solutions, and enjoy some tasty treats while you’re at it!
